Videos, CDs, and DVDs
“What’s To Eat?” offers a brief video tour of Texas showcasing some of its major agricultural crops and livestock. Narrated by a young rancher, the video features cotton, wheat, poultry, and beef and dairy cattle. (For all grade levels. Run time: 12 minutes.)
“Let’s Visit Texas” provides a look at the four major geographic regions of the Lone Star State. This DVD explores the Mountains and Basins, High Plains, Central Plains and Coastal Plains regions of Texas. The DVD takes the students on a tour of each of the regions and examines historical points of interest, climate and geography, and the diversity of agriculture in each region and across the state. (For grades 4 and 7.)
“Texas Agriculture: Life and Livelihood” is an interactive CD-Rom program designed for career exploration in grades 4-12. The CD guides students to career areas based on an interactive student assessment. The program allows students to explore various agriculture related jobs within each career area.
Each career contains a job description, education requirements and recommended work experiences that might be helpful in obtaining a job in that area. Some areas contain a short video clip of a person explaining their job in more detail.
The CD also provides links to career-related websites, and Texas colleges and universities offering agricultural degrees and training.
Also included on the CD is a game called Agri-Know, which tests students’ agricultural knowledge; and video clips from “Let’s Visit Texas,” which explores the regions of the state.
Be Ag Smart! The Cotton Connection is an educational newspaper for kids about the production, uses and by-products that come from cotton. Fun facts, games and puzzles.
